What is Screed?
Floor screed is the layer of the floor which sits between the concrete and the final finish (tiles/wood/carpet)
Screed is a cementitious material traditionally made from a combination of cement and sharp sand which is laid on top of a concrete base to provide a strong, smooth and level surface on which a final floor layer can be placed. It is also ideal for covering under floor heating pipes.
A well laid screed floor can dramatically increase the lifespan and performance of your flooring.
Different types of Screed
BONDED SCREED
Ideal for thinner applications, it is fully bonded to the concrete base using a bonding agent/primer, meaning the base and screed become connected as one.
UNBONDED SCREED
This is laid on a polystyrene sheeting / water-resistant membrane that separates the screed from the base.
FLOATING SCREED
Usually applied over a layer of insulation mainly used in structures with underfloor heating.
LIQUID SCREED
A more expensive option with a self levelling, free flowing consistency achieving a flawless finish.
